Open Call

Seeking Filipino artists in Hawaii

Exhibit to take place at the Wailoa Arts & Cultural Center on the Big Island of Hawaii January 2017.

Deadline: December 5, 2016

​

Criteria: 

  • Artists must be of Filipino descent.

  • Seeking artists living in the Hawaiian Islands who have work related to plants or animals. Big Island artists strongly encouraged to submit to our open call. 

  • Painting, Drawing, Installation, and Sculptural work accepted (3D work highly encouraged).

  • We hope all accepted artists can attend the opening reception.

 

Fees: 

  • No fee is required in submitting work.

  • Accepted artists will be required to contribute $15 to assist in paying installation fee.

  • Accepted artists will be responsible for all shipping to and from the exhibit if they live off island.

Email 3-5 images of your flora or fauna related art pieces to: epektoartprojects@gmail.com

Submissions will be reviewed by the collective as a whole.

  • Artists's name

  • Mailing address

  • Website (if applicable) 

  • Brief statement of the work (1-2 paragraph max)

About the show: 

While living in the US, our heritage stems from the Philippines; and many of us continue to hold a strong bond to our customs & culture. This exhibit explores these bonds through the form of a spiritual connection to both plants and animals. Flora and fauna can symbolize a type of 'grounding' of energies. These plants and animals can provide not only physical sustenance, but can also nourishes our soul, and strengthen our connection to our heritage. ​

About Epekto: 

Epekto Art Projects is a contemporary Filipino/a visual artists collective located in the Bay Area. We began in 2011 and have shown throughout San Francisco and Oakland.  As a collective we strive to cultivate a community for Filipina/o artists, supporting each other’s development through exhibiting, resources, and forming connections. We’ve also hosted panel talks and live mural projects as a way to connect with our community.

There is no one particular genre or one style that we work in. We seek to go beyond stereotypes and push boundaries of how we may be perceived.
