Wednesday-Saturday, 2-6pm

Presented as part of a two-month exploration into consumerism and cultural expression in the Bay Area, Root Division’s front gallery will feature special artist projects by Irene Carvajal & Rea Lynn de Guzman.

Through parallel experiences originating on opposite sides of the world, these Bay Area artists confront universal themes of diaspora and concepts of femininity stemming from their Costa Rican and Filipina heritage. Cut From The Same Cloth combines installation, print, and sculptural media with an emphasis on fiber and textiles.

Utilizing textiles as a metaphor for a colonized society, Carvajal and de Guzman explore themes of diaspora, hegemony, gender roles, domesticity, labor, value, and the effects on our psyche.

Cut from the Same Cloth is free, open to the public, and includes a Creative Station - all ages art activities hosted in our classroom during the 2nd Saturday opening reception.

Presented as part of a two-month exploration into consumerism and cultural expression in the Bay Area, for July and August, Root Division’s rear gallery will feature a guest curated group exhibition by Michael Arcega entitled, Bizarre Bazaar exploring the intersection of cultures and objects within a strange global economic system. The works in this show explore the unexpected connections between commerce, the fetish commodity, and the collapse that is often built into the dystopic capitalist system.

In a world of guilty pleasures, uncontrollable desires, binging, hoarding, and over-indulgence, Bizarre Bazaar explores our complicated relationship with consumerism and consumption. From a reluctant submission to that desire or an outright rejection of the system, these works expose the spectrum of responses to our contemporary dilemma. Participating Artists
